FAQs

  • Total Costs

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends that fees are calculated on the assumption that one hour of billable time (consultation and/or report-writing) involves an additional average of half an hour of associated non-billable professional time (e.g. referrals, phone calls, test scoring etc.). Vivien recognises that the APS National Schedule of Recommended Fees (July 2024 - June 2025) has set the standard 50 minute consultation fee at $311. To support continued community access to affordable healthcare, Vivien has adjusted her fees accordingly. Note: Vivien regrets being at current capacity for offering concession rates for assessments and therapy, and strongly encourage prospective clients to consider university clinic options, provisional psychologists and counsellors/psychotherapists for ongoing accessible healthcare.

*The fee structure for assessments and reports are inclusive of +10% GST. The assessment fee includes professional time for consultations and report-writing.

  • Mental Health Care Plan/ Mental Health Treatment Plan

Medicare does not permit the use of the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) for rebates for ADHD and/or Autism and Cognitive and Personality Disorders diagnostic assessments as they are not listed as part of the Better Access Initiative, which is treatment-focused. If applicable, please check with your Private Health Insurance provider if they provide rebates for psychological assessments.

^ For mental health treatment, however, Medicare rebates are available for clients of all ages presenting with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), particularly for the treatment of mental health conditions that were diagnosed by GPs (e.g. anxiety, depression). Medicare rebates are available for therapy sessions from Jan 2024 to Dec 2024. Please note that patients with a current MHCP are eligible for the rebate for clinical psychologists at $131.65, such that the out of pocket session gap fee is approximately $130 via Medicare rebates.

  • Report-Writing

The APS recommends that a report is a psychological service that is directly requested by the client, with the report preparation time inclusive of relevant file and document review. General guidelines for report length are 3 - 5 pages of A4 single-spaced, typed, full page. Any professional letters to medical or other referral agencies concerning treatment needs of the client are not considered to constitute reports.

Typically, report writing time is allocated at least four (4) weeks in advance in order of receipt of requests post completion of assessments. Please take these time frame constraints into account when contacting with a request for a report.

The diagnostic reports are also not appropriate to support justice-involved individuals particularly in forensic and medico-legal contexts, where an independent expert forensic opinion is often required.
